Madonie mountains: Hiker rescued after medical emergency

A 27-year-old hiker from the Trapani province was rescued in the Madonie mountains after suffering a sudden illness. The emergency occurred in the early morning hours near the Bivacco Giumenta in the Monte Cervi massif.

The alarm was raised at approximately 4:30 AM when the hiker's companions used a satellite messaging device to request help, as the area lacks cellular coverage. The signal was received by the Palermo-Trapani 118 Emergency Operations Center, which mobilized the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service.

Two rescue teams were deployed from Petralia Sottana and Caltavuturo. After reaching the group and performing initial medical assessments, rescuers escorted the young man on foot to Portella Colla. He was then transferred by ambulance to the hospital in Petralia Sottana for medical treatment.
