Madonie Park requests state of emergency in Sicily over wildlife

The Madonie Park Council has unanimously approved a request to the President of the Sicilian Region to declare a state of emergency due to the increasing presence of wild boars and jackals.

The council noted that the proliferation of these animals is causing significant issues regarding ecosystem protection, agricultural damage, public health, and general safety. The request seeks extraordinary interventions and resources to manage the wildlife situation.

Representatives from numerous municipalities, including Cefalù, Castelbuono, and Petralia Sottana, participated in the meeting. Officials from the Forestry Corps, the Department of Rural and Territorial Development, and the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Sicily were also in attendance to address the crisis.
