Madonie Regional Park faces biodiversity threats from roe deer

The Madonie Regional Park in Sicily is facing ecological challenges due to a growing population of roe deer. WWF Sicilia Nord Occidentale has called for an effective containment plan based on scientific criteria to protect the region's biodiversity, forest regeneration, and agricultural activities.

The WWF emphasizes that previous management efforts have yielded insufficient results. They suggest that containment strategies should include selective culling through authorized plans or non-lethal capture methods, provided there is adequate specialized personnel and economic resources to manage the animals.

In addition to the deer issue, the park's ecosystem is also affected by wild boar populations. The Park Authority has requested a state of emergency from the Sicilian Region to address these threats to the natural balance of the territory.
