Madrid A-5 Underground Project Restores Original Road Alignment

The underground works on the A‑5 in Madrid began on 22 July and will run until 28 July, during which the temporary bypass at Batán will be removed and the road will return to its original straight alignment. Night‑time lane closures (23:00‑06:00) will keep at least one lane open in each direction to maintain traffic flow.

The €400 million investment covers a 350‑metre section and a 100 000 m² area. Once the tunnel excavation is complete, the surface previously occupied by the road will be transformed into a 3.2‑km green corridor for public use, linking the Lucero, Aluche and Las Águilas neighborhoods in the Latina district.
