Madrid deploys emergency connectivity in Sierra Oeste

The Community of Madrid has deployed technological solutions to maintain connectivity in 17 municipalities within the Sierra Oeste region following wildfires. To ensure residents can access communication services and the internet, the regional government activated satellite connections, WiFi networks, and mobile coverage units.

In Pelayos de la Presa, one of the most affected areas, Starlink satellite connections were implemented as a backup for municipal fiber optics. Additionally, a satellite-connected WiFi network was established near the Municipal Sports Center. A mobile coverage unit (COW) was also deployed to reinforce mobile communications after a local telecommunications station was damaged by the fires.
