Madrid district orders eviction of community radio Radio Enlace

The Hortaleza district council in Madrid issued an order on 31 July requiring the community radio station Radio Enlace to vacate its municipal premises on Matapozuelos street in the Canillas neighbourhood immediately. The space, formerly the caretaker’s house of the now‑closed Rubén Darío school, had been granted to the station in June 2022 for a four‑year term that expired on 22 June.

Radio Enlace, which broadcasts on 107.5 FM and provides programmes for people with reduced mobility, says the location is essential for its inclusive activities. The station criticised the timing of the eviction notice, calling the procedure a “premeditated maneuver” and lamenting the lack of dialogue with district president David Pérez. The council’s decision ends a lease that had allowed the station to operate from a more accessible venue after previously using a basement on Costa del Sol.

The dispute adds to earlier tensions, including the loss of the station’s previous booth at the district’s Spring Festival after changes to venue‑allocation rules. Radio Enlace is seeking a new public tender or renewal to continue its social work in the area.
