Radio Enlace eviction dispute in Madrid

In late July 2026, the Hortaleza district council in Madrid ordered the community radio station Radio Enlace to immediately vacate its municipal premises in the Canillas neighbourhood. The station, which provides programming for people with reduced mobility, argued that the space was essential for its inclusive activities and described the eviction as a “premeditated maneuver” following the expiration of a lease term in June.

By mid-August, the dispute escalated when Hortaleza district president David Pérez issued a 1,000 euro fine to the station for failing to comply with the eviction order. Pérez warned that the fine would increase by 1,000 euros for every week the station remains in the location and indicated that the municipal board is seeking judicial authorization for forced execution to recover the property.

Radio Enlace has appealed the decision. The station has received support from over 6,500 people via a petition, and it continues to call for a transparent public tender to secure a new accessible municipal space.
