Madrid Hospital Hosts Endocrinology Update on Thyroid Disease and Obesity

The Hospital Universitario Rey Juan Carlos in the Community of Madrid held a "Jornada de Actualización en Endocrinología y Nutrición, obesidad y patología tiroidea" to refresh clinicians' knowledge on two prevalent conditions. Dr. Nerea Aguirre Moreno, associate chief of Endocrinology and Nutrition, stressed that both thyroid disorders and obesity now have increasingly effective diagnostic tools and treatments.

The program covered four areas: interpretation of altered TSH levels and thyroid nodule management, clinical evaluation and new pharmacologic strategies for obesity, obesity in specific clinical settings, and key points for daily practice. Participants learned about ultrasound classification systems that accurately assess nodule malignancy risk, reducing unnecessary procedures. Dr. Ana Alonso Torres highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary coordination between radiology, endocrinology and nutrition. Speakers emphasized obesity as a chronic, complex disease linked to diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver, certain cancers and musculoskeletal problems, advocating for comprehensive, long‑term management.
