Madrid launches network of 60 wildlife observatories

The Community of Madrid has introduced a pioneering network of 60 wildlife observatories across the region's natural areas. The initiative, presented by the Minister of Environment, Agriculture, and Interior, Carlos Novillo, involves an investment of approximately 300,000 euros and is expected to be implemented in collaboration with local municipalities and entities by early 2028.

The project includes the conditioning and signage of existing observation points and wildlife itineraries, as well as the creation of new facilities. To enhance the visitor experience, the government will provide digital resources, including a digital dossier accessible via QR codes at each site, detailing the location, characteristics, and specific species found in each enclave.

Rivas-Vaciamadrid stands out as the municipality with the highest concentration of these sites, hosting five of the 60 points. These are located at the Campillo lagoon and four sites within the Soto de las Juntas lagoon, both situated in the Southeast Regional Park. Other municipalities with significant presence include Madrid and San Fernando de Henares, each with four installations.
