Madrid Metro Line 11 expansion attracts six bidding consortia
Six business consortia are competing for the expansion of Madrid Metro's Line 11, a project representing the largest subway extension of the current legislative term. The project involves a total investment of 880.6 million euros to extend the line between Mar de Cristal and Valdebebas Norte.
The expansion covers a 7.2-kilometer stretch and includes the construction of four new stations: Ifema-Cárcavas, Ciudad de la Justicia, Hospital Isabel Zendal, and Valdebebas Norte. The project will also connect with existing infrastructure at Mar de Cristal (Lines 4 and 8) and Aeropuerto T4 (Line 8 and Cercanías commuter rail).
To accelerate the timeline, the works have been divided into two separate lots. The first lot, covering the section from Mar de Cristal to Hospital Isabel Zendal, has an estimated cost of 580 million euros and a 39-month execution period. The second lot, from the hospital to Valdebebas Norte, is valued at 300 million euros with a 32-month timeframe. The goal is to complete the works by 2030.
Five of the bidding consortia—Acciona-Seranco, FCC-Convensa-Ortiz, Vias-Sacyr-Cavosa, Ferrovial-Dragados-Avintia, and OHLA-San José-Rover—are applying for both lots, while the sixth consortium, Becsa-Acsh-Copasa, is participating only in the second lot.
