Madrid President appoints former presidents to advisory commission

Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, has appointed former regional presidents Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, Esperanza Aguirre, and Cristina Cifuentes as members of the Legal Advisory Commission (Comisión Jurídica Asesora).

This move restores a system of compensation for former presidents that was previously abolished by Cristina Cifuentes in 2015. Under the new arrangement, the appointees will receive a net fee of 750 euros per session attended. The Commission serves as a consultative body that issues legal opinions on significant regional regulatory projects and legal matters.

The PSOE has criticized the decision, alleging that the appointments are a way to secure political support for the regional government regarding the controversial purchase of a property in Chamberí. The regional government maintains that the appointments are based on the accumulated experience of the former leaders and that the fees are the maximum allowable amount per session.
