Madrid transport modernization brings interactive screens to bus shelters

The Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) of Madrid has launched a modernization project for interurban bus shelters across several municipalities. The initiative focuses on integrating advanced technologies to improve the passenger experience and accessibility.

Key upgrades include the installation of touchscreens with interactive maps, allowing travelers to locate stops and view updated transport network plans. These devices are designed with universal accessibility standards to assist people with reduced mobility. Other technological additions include real-time dynamic information panels showing bus waiting times, Wi-Fi connectivity, and NaviLens technology to assist visually impaired users.

To improve energy efficiency, the new shelters will feature lighting systems powered by solar panels. The first phase of the touchscreen rollout includes ten cities: Alcobendas, Boadilla del Monte, Getafe, Móstoles, Rivas-Vaciamadrid, San Sebastián de los Reyes, Majadahonda, Torrejón de Ardoz, Colmenar Viejo, and Alcorcón. Additionally, the CRTM has expanded Wi-Fi services to 29 shelters across 13 municipalities.
