Madrid interurban bus shelter modernization
Overview
The Consorcio Regional de Transportes (CRTM) is implementing a modernization project for interurban bus shelters throughout the Community of Madrid. The initiative focuses on integrating advanced technologies to enhance passenger information and accessibility.
Key upgrades include the installation of interactive touchscreens featuring maps to help travelers locate stops and view network plans. These devices are designed for universal accessibility, specifically assisting those with reduced mobility. Other technological improvements include real-time dynamic information panels for bus waiting times, Wi-Fi connectivity, and NaviLens technology to support visually impaired users. To increase energy efficiency, the shelters are being equipped with solar-powered lighting systems.
The initial phase of the touchscreen rollout covers ten municipalities: Alcobendas, Boadilla del Monte, Getafe, Móstoles, Rivas-Vaciamadrid, San Sebastián de los Reyes, Majadahonda, Torrejón de Ardoz, Colmenar Viejo, and Alcorcón. Additionally, the CRTM has expanded its digital services, bringing the total to 29 shelters with Wi-Fi across 13 municipalities.
