Maersk announces new surcharges for Brazil-North America routes
Maersk has announced several adjustments to its shipping and handling fees affecting routes involving South America and North America.
Starting November 5, 2026, the company will implement a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) of US$ 1,000 per container for dry cargo shipments originating from Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina destined for the United States and Canada. This surcharge applies equally to both 20-foot and 40-foot units and is an additional cost on top of existing operational and local fees.
Additionally, Maersk is revising its Origin Handling Charges (OHC) and Destination Handling Charges (DHC) for containers moving to and from various Brazilian ports. Effective November 1, 2026, these updated tariffs—quoted in Brazilian reais—will remain in place until further notice. The company cited increased port-related and operational costs as the reason for these adjustments. The revised rates vary by location and cargo type, including dry, reefer, and dangerous goods, across major ports such as Santos, Paranaguá, and Rio de Janeiro.
