Magallanes celebrates 13th Regional Cultural Heritage Day
The Magallanes region held its 13th edition of the Regional Cultural Heritage Day, featuring over 50 free activities across Punta Arenas, Natales, Cabo de Hornos, and San Gregorio. The event, organized by the Seremi of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage alongside the National Cultural Heritage Service, focused on honoring the Chiloé community's legacy and the bicentennial of the Tantauco Treaty.
Key activities included a theatrical heritage route between Muelle Prat and the Plaza de Armas, and radio amateur transmissions from Public Library No. 47. Additionally, La Prensa Austral, the region's oldest functioning newspaper, hosted an exhibition of its photographic archive.
In Punta Arenas, students from the University of Magallanes (UMAG) conducted a memory intervention at the Plaza de los Derechos Humanos. Using a display of clothing, letters, and news clippings, they engaged the community in discussions regarding the history of the Colón 636 site, which served as a center for political detention and torture during the Chilean military dictatorship.
