Polres Magetan, together with Perhutani KPH Lawu, the Indonesian army, BPBD Magetan and local volunteers, built a 1.8‑kilometre firebreak (ilaran api) on 27 July 2026 in the Cemorosewu forest area of Plaosan, Magetan. Around 100 personnel took part, and the project was led by the deputy administrator of KPH Lawu, Kapolsek Plaosan AKP Agus Budi Witarno and the district military commander. The firebreak is intended to impede, slow and localise any forest‑fire spread on the slopes of Mount Lawu.

In Central Java, the regional disaster agency (BPBD Jawa Tengah) reported that 25 regencies and cities are experiencing severe drought in 2026. Between 5 June and 19 July, the agency recorded 56 forest‑and‑land fire incidents and 219 building or house fires, with losses of about Rp 607 million from forest fires and Rp 27 billion from structural fires.
