Magic: The Gathering announces Reality Fracture expansion
Wizards of the Coast has announced ‘Reality Fracture’, the upcoming Magic: The Gathering expansion set scheduled for release on October 2, 2026. The set serves as the narrative conclusion to the Metronome Arc, focusing on the transformation of the planeswalker Jace Beleren.
In this storyline, Jace has adopted the persona of ‘The Theorist’ and seeks to replace the existing Multiverse with the ‘Echoverse’—a perfected, alternative reality designed to eliminate historical threats like Nicol Bolas, the Eldrazi, and the Phyrexian invasion. However, this new reality threatens to overwrite and consume the original Multiverse. This shift positions Jace as an antagonist to his former allies, such as Chandra and Ajani, who must now oppose his vision.
Mechanically, the set introduces ‘What If?’ themes, featuring ‘Echo-pairs’ where known characters appear with altered personalities or powers. New mechanics include the ability to create Jace planeswalker tokens through the Amass mechanic. The expansion also introduces Hexhaven, a militarized version of the Strixhaven academy, and features significant lore connections to older characters like Kallist Rhoka.
