Magnesium deficiency and its role in fatigue management
Magnesium plays a critical role in cellular energy production, muscle function, and nervous system regulation. Experts note that approximately 60% to 70% of the French population does not meet the recommended daily intake of this essential mineral.
Deficiencies can manifest through symptoms such as fatigue, muscle cramps, headaches, irritability, anxiety, and eye twitching. While magnesium is vital for the production of ATP—the primary energy source for cells—supplementation is most effective when used to correct a genuine nutritional deficit rather than as a universal cure for fatigue, which can stem from sleep deprivation, infection, or chronic illness.
Risk factors for deficiency include diets low in leafy greens, whole grains, nuts, and seeds, as well as gastrointestinal disorders or type 2 diabetes. Health professionals advise consulting a medical professional before starting supplements to ensure they address the underlying cause of symptoms.
