Magnitude‑6.7 quake damages homes and forces hospital evacuations in Central Sulawesi

A magnitude‑6.7 earthquake struck near Palu on 16 June 2026 at 10:27 WIB, with a depth of 10 km. The shock was felt strongly in Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi, prompting the Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD) to record damage to about 15 houses across four villages – Torue (South), Torue (Torue), Tolai and Sausu Trans – affecting roughly 36 people. No fatalities or injuries were reported.

The tremor also triggered the evacuation of patients from the Anuntaloko Hospital in Parigi. Staff moved patients, including those in wheelchairs and on beds, to safe outdoor areas while assessing the building for after‑shock risk. Hospital officials said most patients have now been returned to inpatient rooms, but precautions remain in place. BMKG confirmed the quake did not generate a tsunami and warned of possible liquefaction, though none has been observed so far.
