Magyar Péter’s tactics likened to Orbán Viktor in German analysis
The German daily Die Zeit published an analysis, quoted by its foreign‑policy editor Alexander Kauschanski, that Hungarian politician Magyar Péter’s methods resemble those of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The piece argues that, while Péter promotes reconciliation, he simultaneously provokes and operates without clear checks and balances, echoing Orbán’s earlier authoritarian style. Critics say Péter seeks to reshape Hungary by marginalising the “Orbán elite” and restoring EU funds, but they note Fidesz’s declining influence and question whether the promised reforms can withstand authoritarian temptations. The analysis also mentions the need for €16 billion of frozen EU money to be released with concrete reform proposals by the end of summer.
