Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe enforces strict food safety standards
Tukaram Mundhe, the Commissioner of the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has initiated a rigorous crackdown on food safety violations across the state. This enforcement drive, colloquially referred to as the ‘Mundhe Effect’, has targeted major multinational fast-food chains, quick-commerce dark stores, and dairy brands.
During recent inspections, several Domino's outlets in Mumbai and Karad faced immediate license suspensions due to hygiene failures and violations of food standards. Other major brands, including KFC, Subway, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, and Burger King, have received strict improvement notices following intensive kitchen inspections. The crackdown has also extended to the warehouses of 10-minute grocery delivery platforms.
In addition to his professional reputation for strict administration, Mundhe has gained social media attention for his personal simplicity. A viral video shows the senior IAS officer preparing tea for guests at his home, highlighting a contrast between his high-profile regulatory role and his unpretentious lifestyle.
