Maharashtra FDA ramps up food safety inspections and enforcement
Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has launched an intensified enforcement drive to combat food adulteration and ensure public health safety across the state. As part of this initiative, the FDA is increasing inspections of roadside Chinese food stalls and eateries following public complaints regarding hygiene, ingredient quality, and storage practices.
In preparation for the upcoming Ganeshotsav festival, Mundhe has issued specific guidance to dhol-tasha performers, advising them to avoid fried foods and energy drinks in favor of nutritious, home-cooked meals. He also urged Ganesh mandals to cooperate with the FDA by arranging inspections for sweets like pedhas and ladoos distributed as prasad. The Commissioner has proposed the theme ‘Safe Food, Safe Medicine, Safe Maharashtra’ to promote awareness during the festivities.
