Maharashtra FDA suspends 11 food establishment licenses
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licenses of 11 food establishments following inspections conducted on October 21 and 22. The crackdown targeted nine establishments in Mumbai and two in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division due to significant hygiene and food safety violations.
Key violations identified included unhygienic kitchen and drainage conditions, the use of rusted equipment and utensils, improper handling of food such as mixing returned bread with fresh stock, and the use of unauthorized food colors in sweets. Inspectors also noted incomplete temperature records and a lack of required medical certificates for workers.
Among the suspended entities are two Domino’s Pizza outlets located in Bhandup West and Beed, a BEST canteen in Borivali West, and several local bakeries and restaurants. During the inspection drive, officials seized approximately 35,547 kg of food stock across the state, valued at an estimated Rs 79.97 lakh. Large-scale seizures also occurred in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, including significant quantities of turmeric and chili powder.
