Maharashtra FDA suspends Cafe Mondegar license over safety violations
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the operating license of Cafe Mondegar, a well-known establishment in Colaba, Mumbai, following inspections that revealed significant food safety and hygiene violations.
Led by FDA chief Tukaram Mundhe, the inspection identified several critical failures, including improper temperature control for hot and cold foods, inadequate thawing methods, and poor sanitation of food preparation equipment. The FDA also noted structural issues, such as moisture damage to flooring and inadequate drainage near food preparation areas, which posed risks of cross-contamination.
This crackdown is part of a broader, intensified inspection campaign across Maharashtra during the Ganpati Utsav festival period. Recent enforcement actions have already resulted in the seizure of over 4,000 kg of dairy and confectionery products, including milk, paneer, and ghee, valued at more than Rs 15.5 lakh.
