Maharashtra FDA suspends licences of five Mumbai food establishments

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), led by Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, has suspended the operational licences of five food establishments in Mumbai following severe hygiene and safety violations. The crackdown, conducted within a 24-hour period, targeted Dreamer Hospitality (Bandra), Mahalaxmi Gallops, Gurukrupa Dairy Products (Malad East), Gufran Seekh Corner (Versova), and Mirari (Bandra West).

Inspections revealed a range of serious infractions. At Mahalaxmi Gallops, officials found blood and ketchup stains on ice used for non-vegetarian items, alongside insect infestations and uncovered drains. Gurukrupa Dairy Products was found to be manufacturing adulterated ghee by blending refined sunflower oil and vanaspati; authorities seized approximately 2,464.05 kg of the fraudulent product, valued at roughly Rs 15.15 lakh.

Other violations included operating without valid licences, inadequate testing of drinking water, poor food storage, and the presence of rodents and insects. The FDA stated these immediate enforcement actions were necessary to protect public health, particularly ahead of the upcoming festive season.
