Maharashtra FDA suspends licences of three Mumbai eateries over hygiene violations

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food‑business licences of Shalimar Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., Noor Mohammadi Hotel and Rehmania Restaurant in Mumbai. Inspections by the Greater Mumbai Division found serious breaches of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011, including slippery kitchen floors, inadequate pest‑control measures, lack of drinking‑water quality testing, missing procurement records, improper segregation of vegetarian and non‑vegetarian food, and deteriorating walls, ceilings and equipment. The regulator warned that establishments must rectify these deficiencies and comply with hygiene standards before licences can be restored. The crackdown follows a series of surprise inspections launched by the new FDA commissioner, IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe, aimed at strengthening food‑safety compliance across Maharashtra.
