Maharashtra floods prompt work‑from‑home order, school closures and rescue operations

Relentless heavy rain across Maharashtra led the India Meteorological Department to issue red alerts for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Pune and the Nashik Ghats. The state government ordered private offices in Mumbai to allow employees to work from home, warning of legal action for non‑compliance, while non‑essential government offices shifted to half‑day schedules.

National Disaster Response Force teams were deployed for rescues as floods and landslides caused deaths, including six people in a building collapse in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area and a 10‑year‑old boy swept away by the swollen Kamvari River. Landslides blocked sections of the Mumbai‑Pune Expressway and other ghat roads. Schools and colleges in affected districts were closed as a precaution.

The chief minister chaired an emergency review, directing agencies to remain on high alert and ordering relief measures such as an ex‑gratia of ₹4 lakh for families of the building‑collapse victims.
