Maharashtra government criticized over drought response

The Shiv Sena (UBT) party has launched a sharp critique against the Maharashtra government regarding the ongoing drought crisis affecting regions such as Marathwada, North Maharashtra, and Vidarbha. In an editorial published in the party mouthpiece 'Saamana', the opposition accused the administration of being insensitive to the plight of farmers facing crop failures, particularly with soybean crops being destroyed.

The controversy stems from reports of a meeting in Nanded, where Agriculture Minister Dattama Bharne and other officials were allegedly seen consuming dry fruits like cashews and almonds at a rest house prior to inspecting drought-affected areas. The editorial criticized the government for living in luxury while a significant portion of the population faces hunger and thirst.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded to the criticism by stating that such consumption is not appropriate and that the administration should remain sensitive, while also accusing the opposition of politicizing the issue. The party continues to highlight the severe impact of the drought on livestock, water supplies, and the livelihoods of rural families.
