Maharashtra government releases ₹5,086 crore in farmer debt relief

The Maharashtra government has released a second tranche of financial assistance under the ‘Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmers’ Debt Relief Scheme 2026’. This latest disbursement amounts to ₹5,086 crore, which was transferred directly into the bank accounts of 636,036 eligible farmers via a digital system.

To date, a total of 1,258,243 farmers have benefited from the scheme, receiving a cumulative total of ₹10,115 crore. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the primary goal is to relieve the farming community of debt burdens and restore their access to agricultural credit to stabilize the rural economy.

Regional distribution for the second phase shows significant impact in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, where 302,273 farmers received ₹2,284 crore. Other major beneficiaries include the Amravati division (145,808 farmers), Nashik (84,813 farmers), Pune (49,224 farmers), and Nagpur (44,864 farmers).
