Maharashtra TET paper leak leaves 600,000 candidates waiting, Rahul Gandhi calls for new exam date

An alleged leak of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) question paper in Maharashtra led the state to cancel the scheduled June 28, 2026 exam, affecting roughly six lakh aspiring teachers. Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, criticised the state government on X, stating, "Maharashtra TET paper leaked, exam cancelled. 6 lakh candidates left in limbo," and demanded three immediate actions: a fresh exam date, accountability for those responsible for the leak, and age‑limit relaxation for affected candidates.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde responded, saying police had already arrested ten people and were pursuing further leads across Delhi, Agra, Bihar and Haryana. The state announced that steps were being taken to prevent future leaks and that the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) could be applied to the perpetrators. Gandhi said he would raise the issue of paper leaks in Dehradun on July 17 as part of his "Chhatron ki Goonj" outreach.

The controversy highlights systemic vulnerabilities in exam security and has created uncertainty for a large pool of teacher‑job aspirants across the state.
