Nepal flash floods trigger massive rescue operations for stranded travelers
Devastating flash floods and landslides in the Himalayan region, particularly along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors in Nepal, have triggered massive rescue operations for stranded travelers.
Indian authorities have confirmed the rescue of 84 Indian nationals, including 21 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu and 63 workers from the Trishuli-I hydropower project. While 149 Indians have safely crossed from China into Nepal, approximately 320 individuals remain uncontactable due to telecommunication outages.
In Maharashtra, the state government is coordinating the return of stranded citizens. Approximately 106 tourists from Nagpur have already reached India, while 404 residents are confirmed safe but remain stuck in various parts of Nepal. Authorities are still attempting to locate 60 tourists from a Mumbai-based tour group.
In Tamil Nadu, four cabinet ministers have been dispatched to New Delhi to coordinate with the central government for the evacuation of 106 devotees from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, as 86 pilgrims remain missing.
Additionally, a German family of four was rescued by the Nepalese army via helicopter after being stranded near Trishuli Bazar. Meanwhile, hundreds of pilgrims on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra are reported missing, including four German nationals who lost contact while returning from Mount Kailash and Manasarovar Lake in Tibet.
