Maharashtra police rescue infant in interstate trafficking case

Police in Maharashtra have rescued a one-month-old infant and arrested seven individuals in connection with an alleged interstate child trafficking ring. The investigation began after the child’s mother approached authorities in the Mukundwadi area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

According to investigators, the baby’s biological parents allegedly sold the infant for ₹1.20 lakh to a middlewoman. Police claim the couple used the proceeds to purchase two expensive smartphones and gold jewelry, which have been seized. The child was subsequently passed through several hands in a series of transactions, with prices reportedly increasing at each stage.

The infant was allegedly sold for ₹2.70 lakh to a resident of Padegaon, and then for ₹3.50 lakh to an individual posing as a doctor in Nanded. The child was eventually transferred to a relative in Hyderabad, where police successfully traced and rescued the infant. Authorities are currently examining the financial trail to dismantle the suspected trafficking network stretching between Maharashtra and Telangana.
