Child trafficking investigation in Maharashtra

Overview

Police in Maharashtra have rescued a one-month-old infant and arrested seven individuals as part of an investigation into an alleged interstate child trafficking ring.

Authorities report that the infant’s biological parents sold the child to a middlewoman for ₹1.20 lakh, using the funds to purchase gold jewelry and smartphones. The infant was then reportedly sold through multiple transactions, with prices increasing at each stage, eventually reaching ₹3.50 lakh when transferred to an individual in Nanded. The child was ultimately moved to a relative in Hyderabad, where police successfully traced and rescued the infant. Investigators are currently examining financial trails to dismantle the network operating between Maharashtra and Telangana.
