Maharashtra TET 2026 Postponed After Paper Leak, SIT Probe Launched

The Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) scheduled for 28 June 2026 was postponed a day before the exam when police in Bhiwandi, Thane district, raided a location and recovered question papers that matched the official test. Three suspects – two from Bihar and one from Haryana – were arrested and linked to an alleged inter‑state syndicate. The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) announced the deferment, stating that candidates will not be required to pay any additional registration fees and that a fresh date will be announced after the investigation.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Pawan Bansod to probe the leak, and SIT teams were later deployed to West Bengal, Bihar, Delhi and Haryana. Opposition parties, including the Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena (UBT) and AIMIM, condemned the BJP‑led state government, calling it a “paper‑leak government”. The postponement affects over 4.28 lakh registered candidates (around six lakh total applicants) and has raised concerns about the security of competitive examinations in the state.
