Maharashtra to induct Agniveers into state police force

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that Agniveers from the Army and Air Force will be eligible for induction into the Maharashtra Police. This follows the successful integration of a first batch of 282 Navy Agniveers into the state’s coastal security wing.

The 282 Navy personnel, consisting of 150 Seaman Deckside and 132 Seaman Engineside members, have been appointed as police constables. This move implements a state cabinet decision to provide a 10 per cent horizontal reservation for Maharashtra-domiciled former Agniveers in Group-C uniformed posts, including the State Reserve Police Force, fire services, prisons, and Home Guards.

Under this policy, eligible Agniveers can be absorbed through direct recruitment without competitive examinations or repeating basic training. The government noted that the specialized training received by these individuals during their military service will strengthen state security forces.
