Indian states recruiting former Agniveers into police
Overview
Several Indian states have implemented policies to integrate former Agniveers into their respective state police forces.
In Gujarat, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced that former Agniveers from the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force who are residents of the state are eligible for direct recruitment into the Gujarat Police without a written examination. This policy includes a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit and maintains a 20 per cent reservation for designated uniformed posts.
Similarly, Maharashtra has moved to induct Agniveers from the Army and Air Force into the Maharashtra Police. This follows the integration of 282 Navy Agniveers into the state’s coastal security wing as police constables. The Maharashtra government has established a 10 per cent horizontal reservation for Maharashtra-domiciled former Agniveers in Group-C uniformed posts, such as the State Reserve Police Force, fire services, prisons, and Home Guards. Eligible individuals can be absorbed through direct recruitment without competitive examinations or repeating basic training.
