Maharashtra weather: Heavy rains and yellow alerts issued for 25 districts

Heavy monsoon rains and strong winds have returned to parts of Maharashtra, causing localized flooding and disruptions. In Thane, Kalyan, and Dombivli, sudden intense rainfall led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, impacting daily life during the ongoing Ganesh festival.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for 25 districts, including Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur, predicting thunderstorms and winds reaching 30 to 40 km/h. Forecasters suggest significant rainfall may continue in several districts through September 24, with another period of high intensity expected between October 1 and October 3.

In Kotma, intense storms caused drainage systems to overflow, flooding streets with wastewater and affecting residential areas. The weather also caused power outages due to electrical faults and raised concerns among farmers regarding potential damage to standing crops caused by the unseasonal wind and rain.
