Mahindra expands Battery-as-a-Service to full Electric Origin SUV range
Mahindra has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to its entire Electric Origin SUV lineup, including the BE 6 Sporteq, XEV 9S, and XEV 9e. This financing model separates the cost of the vehicle from the battery, allowing customers to pay for battery usage at a rate of ₹3.75 per kilometer. By converting the battery from a capital expense to an operating expense, the model aims to address upfront price sensitivity in the Indian electric vehicle market.
Parallel to new financing structures, technological advancements in Battery Management Systems (BMS) are enhancing EV reliability. The integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning is shifting battery management from simple monitoring of voltage and temperature to predictive systems. These AI-driven models can estimate State of Health (SoH), State of Charge (SOC), and Remaining Useful Life (RUL), enabling predictive maintenance and better battery degradation forecasting.
