Mahindra’s SUV programme continues to broaden. Mahindra is now testing a heavily camouflaged prototype of the XUV 7XO SUV, expected to become the company’s first strong‑hybrid model. The hybrid version may use a series‑parallel powertrain similar to those in the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, with launch targeted for 2027‑2028. It will retain the standard SUV’s silhouette while adding fuel‑saving technology and a suite of premium features.

Renault meanwhile announced plans for two hybrid SUVs for India – a Duster Hybrid pairing a 1.8‑L petrol engine with a 49‑bhp electric motor and a three‑row, seven‑seat Duster‑based SUV slated for 2027 – underscoring a wider shift toward hybrid SUVs in the market.

In the same segment, Tata Motors is developing two sub‑4 m SUVs – the “Scarlet” and a next‑generation Nexon – targeting a 2027 launch, while Skoda Auto India has confirmed a facelift for the Slavia sedan scheduled for 18 August. Together these moves highlight a surge of new and refreshed SUV offerings in India’s crowded market.
