Maidi faces 7-year prison sentence for corruption

Maidi, the inactive Mayor of Madiun, faces a prison sentence of seven years and two months following allegations of extortion and gratification investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). During a hearing at the Surabaya Corruption Court on September 17, 2026, prosecutors requested that Maidi also pay restitution totaling Rp8,005,384,790. Failure to pay this amount would result in an additional five-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors stated that Maidi violated Article 12e regarding extortion and Article 12B regarding gratification. The extortion allegations involve requests for funds from various parties seeking permits in Madiun, including companies such as PT Hemas Buana Indonesia and PT Wisesa Berkah Mandiri, often under the guise of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. Additionally, Maidi is accused of receiving a 4 percent fee, approximately Rp200 million, related to a road maintenance project.

In their assessment, prosecutors noted that Maidi’s failure to support government anti-corruption efforts was an aggravating factor, while his family responsibilities were considered a mitigating factor. Maidi was also ordered to pay a fine of Rp205 million, or face 90 days of imprisonment.
