Mailza Assis leads Acre candidates in UNICEF child welfare mentions
Mailza Assis, a candidate for the governorship of Acre, has emerged as a leader in prioritizing children and adolescents in her government plan. According to a UNICEF analysis of candidacies in the Legal Amazon, Assis's plan contains 48 references to the theme, the highest among candidates in Acre and the second highest among 16 plans examined across eight states.
The UNICEF study highlights that Assis's proposals are distributed across various sectors, including 17 references to health, 11 to social protection, 10 to education, and 6 to violence and public security. This integrated approach follows UNICEF's recommendation to combine health, education, and social assistance to protect youth, particularly as the Legal Amazon faces a sexual violence rate against children 23.3% higher than the rest of Brazil.
In addition to her policy focus on youth, Assis has engaged with local communities to discuss economic development. During a meeting with fishing colonies in Rio Branco, she pledged to support fishermen by improving infrastructure and securing workers' rights, citing fishing as a vital income source for families along the state's rivers. Assis currently holds 24% of the intention to vote in recent polling.
