Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson has emerged as the clear front‑runner to replace Graham Platner as the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate. Platner withdrew after a sexual‑assault allegation, prompting an accelerated replacement process. Over the weekend Jackson’s campaign captured the vast majority of county‑level delegates – more than 300 of the 319 seats up for selection and roughly 94 % of the 500 county delegates – leaving him with a decisive lead ahead of the July 25 state convention in Bangor, where the 601‑member convention will formally nominate the candidate. Leading rivals Shenna Bellows (the Maine secretary of state) and former public‑health director Nirav Shah both exited the race and endorsed Jackson, further consolidating his position. Jackson’s support includes labor unions, the progressive wing, and endorsements from figures such as Senator Bernie Sanders and the Our Revolution group.
