Maiori-Minori Tunnel project faces potential cancellation

The proposed Maiori-Minori Tunnel project appears close to cancellation. As the bureaucratic process nears its end, speculation has arisen regarding the future use of the significant funds originally allocated for the infrastructure.

While rumors suggest the multi-million euro resources might be redirected to local works within the municipality of Minori, experts note that such funds are designated for supra-municipal, territorial-scale infrastructure. Consequently, any diversion of these specific funds would likely be restricted to projects of a broader regional scope.

The committee ‘Tuteliamo la Costiera Amalfitana’, which has opposed the tunnel, advocates for redirecting these resources toward urgent regional needs. These include securing rocky cliffs, improving pedestrian mobility, and upgrading existing road networks. Meanwhile, the local administration of Minori will need to seek alternative funding to address urban renewal in the historic center, such as restoring traditional basalt paving in streets like via Santa Lucia to maintain the area's UNESCO-protected character.
