Maiori opposes ANAS tunnel project on SS 163

The Municipality of Maiori has formally expressed its opposition to the ANAS NA286 project, which proposes a tunnel variant for the SS 163 highway between Minori and Maiori. Following a council resolution on July 30, 2026, the administration has notified several authorities, including the Campania Region, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Culture.

The local administration stated that while they support improving mobility and safety on the Amalfi Coast, they reject the current tunnel design. Concerns center on the geological fragility of the territory, specifically the karst nature of the Torre Mezzacapo promontory and the Annunziata Cave. The municipality is seeking more comprehensive documentation regarding potential interference with unknown underground cavities and a clearer understanding of the project’s administrative status.
