Maizuru man missing after being swept away by waves at Kanzaki Beach

An adult male has gone missing after being swept away by waves at Kanzaki Beach in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture. The incident occurred on the afternoon of September 5, 2026, around 3:29 PM.

Witnesses reported seeing the man being taken by the waves, leading to multiple emergency calls. Although the weather was clear, local authorities noted that the waves were high at the time of the incident. The man was reportedly swimming alone.

Search operations are currently being conducted by the Maizuru City Fire Department and the Maizuru Coast Guard. Kanzaki Beach had already concluded its official summer swimming season at the end of August.
