Water-related incidents in Kyoto Prefecture

Overview

In August 2026, a 22-year-old man from Himeji went missing approximately 30 meters offshore from Kotohiki-hama Beach in Kyotango, Kyoto Prefecture. On August 11, a male body estimated to be between 20 and 40 years old was discovered floating in shallow water at the same location. Authorities noted the body had no obvious external injuries.

In September 2026, a separate incident occurred at Kanzaki Beach in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture, where an adult male swimming alone was swept away by waves. Despite clear weather, local authorities reported high waves at the time of the incident. Search operations were initiated by the Maizuru City Fire Department and the Maizuru Coast Guard.
