Major fire engulfs industrial hall in Wegberg-Petersholz, Germany

A large blaze broke out in an industrial hall in the Wegberg-Petersholz district of Heinsberg, Germany on Sunday morning. The hall housed a scaffolding company, a pallet trader and a scrap yard. Firefighters arrived to find the building already ablaze, with the roof partially collapsing and several gas cylinders exploding during the operation.

Specialist units were deployed, including the county’s ABC‑team to monitor air quality, a robotic water‑foam dispenser (LUF) for remote extinguishing, and a Technical Relief Agency (THW) advisor to assess structural stability. A wide safety perimeter was established and residents were advised via the Nina warning app to keep windows and doors closed and to shut off ventilation systems. No injuries were reported, and the police have opened an investigation into the cause of the fire. Damage estimates are not yet available.
