Major Giuseppe Cormio retires after 36 years of service in Italy’s Carabinieri

Major Giuseppe Cormio of the Italian Carabinieri concluded a 36‑year career on Monday 11 May 2026, stepping down from the 11th Carabinieri Regiment “Puglia”. He had most recently commanded both a platoon and a company within the regiment. The ceremony was led by Colonel Nicola Albanese, commander of the regiment, who thanked Cormio for his contributions.

Cormio, born in Giovinazzo and resident in Bitonto, began his service in 1990 after graduating from the Scuola Sottufficiali in Velletri. His assignments included the 12th Carabinieri Regiment “Sicilia”, a stint at the Palermo police station, work with the investigative unit of the Operational Department, a peace‑keeping mission with MSU‑KFOR in Kosovo, and roles in Trani, Molfetta, Gallipoli and Bari. He also oversaw the Carabinieri contingent in Albanian repatriation centers.
