Major marathon events scheduled for September 2026 in Sri Lanka and Ghana

Two major marathon events are scheduled for September 2026 in Sri Lanka and Ghana.

The Colombo Marathon 2026 is expected to host over 5,000 athletes at Galle Face Green on September 13. Organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the event includes a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10KM race, and a 5KM fun run. The competition has attracted 130 international competitors from 25 countries, including elite runners from Kenya and Ethiopia.

In Ghana, the 11th edition of the KGL Foundation Millennium Marathon will take place on September 12, 2026. The event features a 21-kilometer main race and a 5-kilometer race for social runners. Organizers have announced cash prizes for top finishers, including GH¢70,000 for the winner. The race is being monitored by World Athletics as organizers seek international recognition for the event.
