Major solar energy developments announced in Romania and Spain

Romania is set to host Europe’s largest solar plant, the Dama Solar project, which has received authorization from the Romanian energy regulator (ANRE) for its first phase. Developed by Rezolv Energy through its subsidiary West Power Investments, the facility will be located in the Arad region near the Hungarian interconnection points.

The plant is expected to cover over 1,000 hectares with an installed capacity of 1.2 GW, capable of powering approximately 280,000 homes. This project aims to more than double Romania’s current solar production and support the country’s 2030 renewable energy and decarbonization goals. The development also includes an 82-hectare nature reserve and uses sheep for land management on lower-yield agricultural areas.

In Spain, the French multinational Nexun is expanding its solar footprint in Asturias. The company is planning two new photovoltaic parks: the Corniana project in Salas, with a capacity of 3.05 MW, and the San Juan plant in Grau, with a peak capacity of 2.59 MW. Both projects will utilize solar tracking systems to maximize radiation efficiency.
